About Us
The Marshland Maritime Museum in Clenchwarton near Kings Lyn, has been listed among the best naval history institutions in the world. It was recognised alongside the Royal Naval Museum, in Portsmouth and the New Zealand Maritime Museum. The museum houses its founder’s extensive collection of naval memorabilia, which includes over 2,000 artefacts charting the history of the navy from the 18th century to the present day.
The museum was opened four years ago by retired naval seafarer Mike Smith and now attracts about 1,000 visitors a year. Admission to the museum is free, although it does accept donations. Mike Smith said “It is not about the money. It’s about getting people to come and have a look, especially the older generation who are retired.”
