Lydia Eva was requisitioned for the Admiralty by the Ministry of War Transport on the 10.12.42 for £50.0.0 under Net Charterparties Agreement R(T98B) from owners Atlas Transport & Shipping Co. Ltd. It is also reported that her previous owners were Western Marine Craft Co. Ltd., and managed by J. Deheer Ltd., whilst under MOWT ownership. She was initially used by the Ministry of Aircraft Production, (MOAP), as a salvage vessel and remained in service with the MOAP until 1947.
Initially she was operated at Abersoch in Anglesey, where she was converted to carry cargo and a stronger derrick was fitted with a powerful winch for lifting buoys. Later she was moved down the coast to Pwellheli and Ilfracombe. Later in 1945 she moved to Maryport in Cumbria for two years until she moved to Weymouth.
On 1st April 1947 Lydia Eva was sold to the Air Ministry as a mooring vessel and renamed WATCHMOOR
