Explore Ipswich's past with stories that will inspire you. This fascinating and unique Museum gives you the opportunity to meet the famous woolly mammoth, the elegant towering giraffe and other wonderful curiosities from the natural world.

Go on a journey through Suffolk's past from the Iron Age to Romans and Saxons. This museum gives a fascinating insight into the town and surrounding area's intriguing past. Discover more about past civilisations across the globe, you can even take a trip down the Nile in the Egyptian Gallery.
 
The Art School Gallery shows exhibitions of international importance and provides a unique stage for local artists to show their work and to showcase the region's artistic talents.


The Art School Gallery provides access to challenging and thought-provoking experiences from the world of art and over a range of media. The major focus is for modern and contemporary collections, inspiring all who visit.

Gift Shop: Ipswich Museum has a gift shop with an extensive range of books, posters, educational resources and gifts for all ages.

Refreshments: A vending machine dispensing hot and cold drinks is available at the main entrance.

Accessibility

Fully accessible.

There is a ramp at the main entrance leading to double doors that can be opened to allow access for wider wheelchairs or scooters.

There is a manual wheelchair available for use, if required. Please ask at reception.

All galleries are accessible via a lift or stairs.

All areas of the ground floor are either level or have ramped access.

An accessible toilet is located on the ground floor.

There are hands-on and sensory experiences at various points throughout the Museum.

We provide British Sign Language interpretation at selected events.

How to Find Us

To reach Ipswich by road, use the A12 or A14 and follow signs to Ipswich town centre.


There is no parking at Ipswich Museum but it is located in the town centre. There are a number of car parks which you can use, the closest being Crown car park.


The Ipswich Museum is a ten minute walk from Christchurch Mansion, approximately 20 minutes from the railway station, and five minutes from Tower Ramparts bus station in the town centre.
