Introduction
In October 2008 Maritime Heritage East held its first regional event at three museums in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, which attracted 750 visitors. The event worked with the Museum of the Broads, Felixstowe Museum and Walton Maritime Museum. The events ran over the October half term. They were designed to encourage new audiences to the museums, as well as raising awareness of Maritime Heritage East.
This is the data collected using two different feedback forms. One counted the numbers of adults and children to the museums and the other was an optional feedback form encouraging visitors to rate their experience. More data was collected at some sites than others, as the events were tailored to the museums that hosted them.
There is also an extensive image bank of photos taken at all 3 events, demonstrating the range of activities and the fun had by all.

Walton Maritime Museum
2-day event ( Saturday 25th October & Sunday 26th October)
Location – Walton Maritime Museum & The Titchmarsh Marina, Walton.
Times – 10.00 – 16.00
On October 25th and 26th 2008 Frinton & Walton Heritage Trust presented a special exhibition celebrating Walton’s lifesaving heroes at the Walton Maritime Museum. The exhibition at the Museum told the stories of Walton’s lifeboat crews and their vessels, who battled courageously against raging seas from 1884 onwards.
The Trust also created another event at their restored lifeboat the James Stevens No 14 at Titchmarsh Marina. James Stevens No.14 is the oldest surviving motor lifeboat in the world and is being lovingly restored at Titchmarsh Marina. She was open to the public for this weekend only and for the last time before the launch in 2009. Visitors were able to see some of the fascinating processes of restoration and conservation that have been going on to preserve this keystone of national maritime heritage. They were also able to talk to the dedicated members of the Frinton & Walton Heritage Trust about the restoration. Displayed in the area around the lifeboat was a portable exhibition of photographs and documents demonstrating the restoration processes. There were also two raffles to aid fundraising, sales of a local book on the subject of Lifesaving, promotional materials and a miniature replica of the James Stevens No. 14.
The James Stevens No. 14 is being restored in situ at Titchmarsh Marina, which is a public marina with numerous access points. Therefore it was difficult to track the exact number of visitors to the marina.
