Introduction
A true Cromer hero. Henry Blogg served in the Cromer lifeboat for over 53 years, and in that time took part in saving a record 873 lives. No other lifeboatman ever won so many medals. These photos and text record his life and times.

Photograph of the Cromer coxswain Henry Blogg and the Prince of Wales was taken at a presentation ceremony in the Central Hall, Westminster, London when Henry Blogg received his gold medal from the Prince for the rescue of the S.S. Georgia crew on the 30th January 1928
The presentation to Henry Blogg and crew was for their gallant work in the H.F. Bailey rescue of the S.S. Georgia crew. It took place in the town hall on 30th January 1928. This followed a dinner in their honour, and later on Blogg went to London to receive his gold medal from the Prince of Wales. 368 pounds was raised by subscription, a gold watch was also presented to Blogg and silver watches to the crew. A cheque for 289 pounds 8 shillings and 11 pence, the remainder of the money and 50 pounds from the owners of the Georgia were all handed to Blogg on that evening for distribution - cch
H.R.H. The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII for a short while, then the Duke of Windsor) with Henry Blogg at the Central Hall, Westminster on 22nd March 1928, when he presented Blogg with the second bar to his gold medal, for the Georgia rescue, when he said, on presenting the medal, 'I think Coxswain Blogg ought really to break himself of, and I am sure that if there are any ship owners present, and they would like me to bring this to his notice. Apparently he seems to regard it as an indispensible condition of the highest exercise of his seamanship, at any rate in the Gold Medal cases, that the vessel must break in two'.
