Our maritime displays deal with the Royal and Merchant Navies but specifically with HMS Beehive, East coast paddle steamers, Felixstowe Experimental Seaplane Establishment the developement of the Port of Felixstowe and local maritime history.

WORLD WAR I: CAMEL v ZEPPELIN
At 3.45 am on June 17, 1917, Lt. S D Culley flying a Sopwith Camel of the Royal Flying Corps shot down a Zeppelin believed to have been on a mission to bomb Felixstowe. The picture on this page shows a postcard from the time, These and other artefacts are on display in our RAF 90th anniversary exhibition.
