Serving Mallet from France

Serving mallet, Ref1992.2.1
450mm overall, made of wood, Serving is the tight wrapping of tarred twine round a larger rope to protected it , this is what the two people in the museums logo are doing. This mallet was made by Yves Blanchard just outside Nantes. France and is marked A774 the likely port [Auray] registration number of the vessel that this tool would have been used on.
