This handle from a Sailors seachest circa 1850 still has the wrapping of shirt or handkerchief put round it to protect it when the chest returned home from its seafaring days.
This handle from a Sailors seachest circa 1850 still has the wrapping of shirt or handkerchief put round it to protect it when the chest returned home from its seafaring days. Chest Beckets are a token of the skill of the maker, it could be said to be a certificate of competence.
