Two case in which sailors would keep their sailneedles in
Sailmakers needles will go rusty very quickly , they would be kept in a tube containe. This tube container may well have been supplied by the chandlers that sold the needles or it would be something the sailore would mae himself and cover with needle hitching. The covered example in this picture was made by Ingve Edell of Gavle in Sweden .
