Used in splicing wire and fibre rope

A selection of Marline spikes

These tools are used to splice wire and fibre rope. They all made of  steel but have differing shapes dependant on their origin. Many will have a hole to take a lanyard that would go round the neck or wrist to prevent them being dropped when working aloft.
